Biopunk Weapons

BIOPUNK WEAPONS

DESCRIPTION: The goal of this project was to create a number of weapons or tools which could be used in a biopunk video game.

PROCESS: Starting out I researched a number of organic shapes I thought would translate well into some kind of weapon; various fungi, insects, parasites, diseases, and so on, as well as actual weapons and tools.

With those in mind, I began blocking out some silhouettes, focusing more on guns and other projectile weapons than any sort of melee tool, and then deciding on what I felt were the strongest three to develop further.

From there I move into making greyscale renders over the chosen silhouettes. I tried to make them each visually represent different portions of the body, so the top left would be muscle, skin, and of course the head, the top right would be bone, and the bottom would be organs and insects, since I imagined the parts used to make the weapons would come from a partially decayed body.

To finish the render, I added color and incorporated some photo textures. I wanted to explore more variations of the same ideas, so I ended up going back and making three more inspired by the three I started with.

As a final thing, I decided to throw together a low-poly model in Blender to get an idea of how the final product might look, assuming it was used for a retro PSX style game, as well as a mockup of what it might look like in game with UI elements and such. I feel the final execution could have definitely used more love, but it was a novel experience and something I’d definitely explore in the future once I’ve learned more.

I also threw together the crowdfunding mockup below to help me think about how this project might get realized if it ever became a real thing. While I don’t intend to develop this to anywhere near this point at the moment, it was fun to think about.
